Gold and Silver

Silver's hovering just under $13/oz; gold is a little over $900/oz.

So much for cheap silver, anytime soon.

What's My Question?

California requires a 10-day wait before taking possession of a purchased firearm (handgun, rifle, shotgun). During the waiting period, the California Department of Justice runs a background check to determine if the purchaser is a restricted person not permitted to own a firearm.

What I'd like to know is for any given period of time (a month, several months, a year or several years in a row) how many restricted persons were identified as such.

And at what point during the waiting period--was it the first day, the second, the third, et cetera. What's their backlog like during that period--is the DoJ waiting and waiting and waiting for someone to clear and that person finally clears on the tenth day? Or is the DoJ processing all requests within 24 hours?

How does that compare historically? That is, is the DoJ identifying restricted persons more quickly than before?

Have any of the purchased firearms then been used in a "crime of passion" more or less immediately after purchase? Say, within two weeks? (Which I guess would make it pre-meditated, rather than a crime of passion...)

How do California's murder by firearm rates compare to our neighbor states of Arizona, Nevada and Oregon? That is, how often is a legally-purchased gun used by its owner in a murder? (Legitimate self-defense usage disallowed.)

Nationally?

What question am I trying to formulate to ask CA DoJ?

Woes

Not something I really want to post on, but perhaps it'll be therapeutic for me.

Doubt it.

My car is administratively "totaled" and has to be re-registered as a "salvaged vehicle". Before I can do that, I have to get the "check engine" light replaced.

My low-beams are burned out so I'm driving around with my high-beams on. I will have to pay someone to replace those, since the accident that "totaled" my car crumpled the right-side panel around that headlight and I'm not willing to explore body work damage and headlight replacement.

The third eye brake light is burned out.

I'm worried about my tires and will probably have to replace all four at once.

I'm behind on both my credit cards.

I have no income beyond an allowance from my wife (thank you, dear). I have no job prospects. I'm slowly becoming a can / bottle scavenger and counting the nickels.

I bought a single pair of new jeans yesterday, because that was all I could afford.

I'm fat and unfit.

The house looks like the dickens and not in a good way.

I may have fixed the washing machine problem (clogged stand pipe would spout water during any spin cycle; Drano Max Gel may have cleared out the clog, but will still need to be treated until a large load on fast/fast doesn't spout).

This isn't the life that I wanted or ever imagined for myself. How did I get here and how do I get out of here?

Although I'm willing to scavenge for "pin money", I'm not willing to steal. Or rob. I have a gun, but the thought of using it to commit a crime is unthinkable.

I have made poor choices in my life and I am suffering the consequences of those choices. Forcing someone else to mitigate those consequences is ridiculous. And again, unthinkable.

So. Here I am, out on a limb. Listing my woes forces me to think about them. In order to present them, I must organize my listing of them.

Which leads to...?

Heck if I know.

New Job

Two weeks ago yesterday, I signed up with a temp agency in Glendale, hoping to be assigned to a part-time, long-term customer service position in Pasadena.

Per their procedures, I have called in once per week to confirm my availability. So that's twice--first the Monday after the Wednesday that I signed up and again on Tuesday of this week (after the Martin Luther King holiday).

Sigh. Nobody loves me. Still waiting for a call...

Gym Notes

Weighed in at 242 pounds. Warmup was slow, careful stretching (my knee doesn't hurt anymore).

An (inclined) bench was available, so I did my presses: 3 x 4 x 50.

I bumped up the number of reps on my standing shoulder presses: 3 x 8 x 40.

No dumbbells in my weight class, so I used a barbell: 3 x 10 x 30.

Once again, somebody was on the squat rack, using the big bar, so I used the short bar: 3 x 4 x bar only.

Still with short bar for my deadlifts: 3 x 4 x 50, 1 x 4 x 100 (yow).

Since I was there right before the evening rush started, I walked on a treadmill: 1 mile at 3.5mph.

It was a good workout!

Sad, Sad Little Man

I am a sad, sad little man, blogging every endless detail about my life.

But I have an ego and a healthy dose of narcisism. Blogging as I do keeps me in touch with the daily pattern, flow, activity of my life. So I'm normal.

Just living a dull life. But hey--dull is good.

Gold and Silver

Per Gold is Money.info, gold is down almost $31 to $819 and silver is down some sixty-four cents to $10.54.

Hmph.
